A fascination for all things Turkish drove Continental and English porcelain factories to produce figures dressed in this manner see lots 170 and 171 in this sale. The present lot would have provided the owner with a perfectly portable means of displaying that they were right on trend. A similar example with a gilt metal mount is in the Victoria & Albert Collection, 414:276/1, 2-1885.
